Beer Can Be Brewed In Shipping Containers Too
The creative applications for shipping containers never seems to end. People are continuously finding new ways to make a shipping container work for their needs and address challenges to construction and development. Recently, a brewery in London has opened up inside of two shipping containers that houses all of its brewery equipment and a tap room to serve all of their happy customers.
40 ft Brewery, cleverly named after the two 20 foot shipping containers that constitute the construction of the brewery, has been opened in Dalston, London, to serve delicious beer from an old parking lot. Everything that the brewery requires is contained within the containers and the open space of the parking lot provides a great space for gatherings and parties among the patrons.
The idea to use a shipping container came about when the brewery was challenged with a short shipping container leasing term due to a redevelopment plan that loomed over their prospective location. In order to prevent the risk of spending money on the development of a site that could be taken away at any time, the young brewmasters came up with a backup plan for a totally transportable brewery. If they are ever unable to continue leasing the space, they can simply pick up their brewery and put it on the back of a truck to be relocated to a new plot of land.
The relatively low cost of a shipping container has allowed the brewery to invest more money into their equipment and staff, which has pushed them ahead of the curve when it comes to successful brewing. However, it is not as cheap as they had imagined. Due to the small space and big equipment, they have had to get creative when it comes to fitting everything together. It takes many plumbers, engineers and electricians to get everything into proper working order. That being said, the modular nature of this type of construction allows them to easily expand whenever they can. 40 ft Brewery already has plans to add two more containers to their facility, although they have no specific plan to change their name to fit the size of the brewery as well.
As land prices continue to rise in most major urban centres and leasing becomes a bigger reality for most businesses and homeowners, creative types of construction are also becoming more popular. It is a necessary reaction and part of human nature to develop ideas that overcome the challenges that people are faced with on a daily basis. Although the insecurity of this brewery’s location is not ideal, they will be very well-prepared for the day of reckoning. Until then, they can continue to make people happy with their beer.
